Meet Our Staff

Evan Kumagae, PORT Coordinator:

Coming to the Port with a background in outdoor and Public School education, Evan Kumagae is excited to join a team of driven students and committed adults.  His interest in working with young people was sparked at the age of eighteen when he worked in a fourth grade classroom as a Teacher’s Aide in his home state of California.  Since then, he has worn many hats: outdoor instructor, programs coordinator, hospice worker, and Ed. Tech. 

Most recently, Evan completed USM’s Extended Teacher Education Program and received his teaching certification; he is currently finishing his Master’s.   Evan’s enjoys exploring Maine, rock climbing, and random adventures.  The rest of his time is spent running up his cell phone bill to stay connected to his brother and mother in California, being proud of his amazing friends, and supporting his new wife in her graduate studies to become a Physician Assistant.   

Evan works closely with a Teen Advisory Board to plan and lead programming at The PORT.
